Known as a
Fisherman's Village
Its name was taken from the Nossa Senhora da Luz church, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake by local. The history of the village dates back to Roman times, and some ruins found evidence thermal activities and facilities related to the salting of fish. Luz is surrounded by palm trees, white sand and rock formations. The village is famous for its nightlife, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Luz is also known for the amazing Rocha Negra, surrounded by ideal places for surfing and underwater activities, believed to have been formed 150 million years ago by volcanoes in Monchique.
